People have told me that Taco Bell appears healthier to other fast food because it’s tacos and burritos rather than greasy burgers, but there it nothing further from the truth. Taco Bell has a cult-like following of loyal fans that crave their creative quasi-mexi-american food inventiveness. What most do not realize is there is massive amounts of free glutamate (MSG) stuffed into their food. This may be why people crave and eat this stuff many times a week and sometimes more than once a day! The proof is in the pudding MSG.

Taco Bell has worked hard to keep the words “Monosodium Glutamate” off of their ingredients list, but that doesn’t mean there is no MSG. MSG (free glutamate) is hidden in other more harmless looking ingredients in order to create a “clean label” or the illusion that a food is more natural or harmless than it really is. **Definition of TBHQ from Wikipedia:

TBHQ is a highly effective preservative for unsaturated vegetable oils and many edible animal fats. It does not cause discoloration even in the presence of iron, and does not change flavor or odor of the material to which it is added. It can be combined with other preservatives such as butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA). As food additive, its E number is E319, where it is used as a preservative. It is added to a wide range of foods, with highest limit (1000 mg/kg) permitted for frozen fish and fish products. Its primary advantage is enhancing storage life.

It is used industrially as a stabilizer to inhibit autopolymerization of organic peroxides. In perfumery, it is used as a fixative to lower the evaporation rate and improve stability. It is also added to varnishes, lacquers, resins, and oil field additives.

Carcinogenicity of TBHQ

In high doses, it has some negative health effects on lab animals, such as precursors to stomach tumors and damage to DNA.^[1] A number of studies have shown that prolonged exposure to TBHQ may induce carcinogenity.^[2] Other studies, however, have shown inhibition against HCA-induced carcinogenesis (by depression of metabolic activation) for TBHQ and other phenolic antioxidants.^[3]

A quick look at the McDonalds ingredient list on their website makes it absolutely clear to the MSG informed. McDonalds food contains MSG (free glutamate) in many of their most popular food items. Swanson puts on an image of being natural and healthy but all you need is to glance at their ingredient label for 2 seconds to see that it is all lip service. Autolyzed Yeast Extract is a big, big baddie. Autolyzed Yeast Extract means MSG (free glutamate). Swanson also has an “Organic” version of their chicken broth, and yup, you guessed it, there is MSG in it. They can get away with the “No MSG” labeling because technically there is no “monosodium glutamate” added to it. Monosodium Glutamate is a food additive. But you don’t need to add straight monosodium glutamate to a product to get glutamate into your product. There are ways to process foods that already contain glutamate and brake the amino acids (glutamate) from its protein binding. Once the amino acids are broken free from the proteins natural peptide bind the acids are now free, to make your food taste “better”, and free to wreck havock on your bodys glutamate receptors, especially your neurological system (your brain). While looking at the Yves website, I honestly can’t find ANY products that don’t have MSG! I’ve looked at about 80% of their products ingredient list and I can’t find anything that is free of MSG (free glutamate) in any capacity. Of course, when you’re using a product like soy which basically tastes like nothing after it’s stripped down in the disgusting processing phase, you have to add flavor back, or nobody would ever eat this stuff. MSG is almost always the first thing to add and lots of it. Soy isn’t even good for you folks. Just read some of Mike Adams articles over at NaturalNews. Dr. Russell Blaylock says that soy is NOT a health food but the health foods industry is marketing it extremely hard as just that, trying to sell you on it’s supposed health benefits. If you don’t eat meat that’s totally understandable, but don’t eat this stuff if you care at all about your health in regards to MSG and carageenan. It’s just all bad. I’ll be reviewing other meatless soy products too, I’m not just picking on Yves only. If you’re putting MSG in your products (especially if you label it as a natural products or No MSG) I’m coming after you!

Annie's Peace Pasta & Parmesan contains MSG in the form of Yeast Extract

Annie’s Organic Peace Pasta & Parmesan

Annie’s Organic Peace Pasta & Parmesan contains yeast extract which is processed specifically to produce free glutamic acid (MSG) from yeast. This is the only Annie’s Macaroni & Cheese product that contains yeast extract that I’m aware of. I bought this product without even looking at the ingredients (which is not like me at all). I frequently buy Annie’s Mac & Cheese products because I know they are pretty safe in regards to MSG. This one slipped past me though. It makes me wonder why Annie’s felt the need to add this form of MSG to this product, they typically appear to be really good about this sort of thing. I wouldn’t recommend this specific Annie’s product however.

Eden organics would have you believe that you are eating something organic, healthy and wholesome. But if you know anything at all about MSG (free glutamate) you’d know that simply is not true just by reading their label.

It appears that Eden Organics entire line of canned beans contain MSG in the form of Kombu seaweed. If you buy canned beans the only thing you should see on the ingredient label is: “Beans, water and salt (optional). If there is anything else listed, you don’t need it. If you’re making soup or your own homemade chili with it you can add your own spices so you know without a doubt the content of the food you’re eating.

Remember organic MSG/free glutamic acid is still MSG/free glutamic acid, just as organic rat poison is still rat Poison. It doesn’t matter what you call it, it is what it is.

EdenSoy Organic Soymilk contains MSG in the form of Kombu Seaweed

Not only does this contain MSG in the form of Kombu Seaweed (sea tangle), but soy is naturally high in glutamate. During processing of soy beans the glutamic acid is released from it’s protein creating free glutamic acid (MSG). Russell Blaylock M.D. states this in his book Excitotoxins. Kombu has been used for centuries in asian cooking to add flavor to their cooking, however, just because it has been used for a long time throughout history doesn’t make it healthy. If this were true we could continue painting our houses with lead-based paint and eat the nutritious paint chips that flake off. Of course, we’ve learned over the years that lead-based paint is not a very good choice for the general publics health. We live and we learn.

I’ve been told that cyanide has a wonderful nutty flavor, that’s natural and could be considered organic, however, just because it tastes good doesn’t mean we should eat.

Yes, soy sauce contains MSG, in fact it’s very high in free glutamate. It doesn’t matter if it’s listed at monosodium glutamate, soy sauce, hydrolyzed vegetable protein or yeast extract, they all contain MSG (free glutamate). Period.
